Carp

The British have come to recognize the great sporting value carp present when taken on a fly. Carp are delicate feeders, will take small flies off the surface, and will peel out backing with bonefish-like speed. Intrepid American anglers are beginning to explore the thrill of fly fishing for carp.  And it just so happens that the awesome Hell's Canyon area of the Snake River offers some of the finest carp fly fishing in the west. On one September trip, John and a few accomplices hooked more than a dozen fish in an afternoon's angling, some in the twenty pound class.  Six aching arms (and two busted 8-weight rods) later, all anglers had new respect for these golden ghosts.and John decided that the Snake's carp fishery was something worth sharing with his clients who are looking for something a little bit different.  The most effective technique is primarily sight fishing from a driftboat, fishing anything from wooly buggers to small royal coachmans.
