“The Bite” came back!
In the seasons’ Eleventh hour, the bite turned back on. Two encouraging reports in from yesterday. Tom fished the Wallowa with a friend and found the bite to be back on. They fished above the hatchery and hooked 10 fish and landed 6 of those fish. The weather was unconsolidated and squally most of the day but that didn’t keep the fish from biting. Maybe the high pressure that is now firmly in place over the valley was moving in and encouraging those Steelhead to bite.
There was also a similar report from the Imnaha River. The weekend was quite crowded down there but that didn’t keep Mark and Jake from finding a few fish. Then on Monday the crowds dispersed and the bite turned on. They noticed a front rolling through and as soon as that made it overhead the switch turned from Off to On and they quickly got into the double digits for the day. They simply took turns landing one fish after another.
I guess our theory that the fish were still in the river but not too interested in biting was correct. I am going to get out there for my final day of fishing today. I can’t let this incredible season simply go away without one last go of it.
